STATEMENT
Devon based artist Alice Simpson works in oil, pastel and charcoal. Her work is autoethnographic, inspired by the past, love, loss and the politics of the time.
Alice works in various sizes both on the wall and floor layering paint and drawing over with pastel. With her work she wants to command attention and respect. She has a unified vision of emotional landscapes that explore depth and colour, giving her a sense of purpose and direction. Her discourse around the subject of ‘self’ is both ambiguous and playful. The works are a deliberate investigation of emotion though ground and palette.
Alice received her degree from Chelsea College of Art in 2003 and she is currently studying for a Masters at Plymouth College of Art.
Alice has run workshops with both children and adults and has a particular interest in working with women and exploring emotion.
